Landslide for Maxwell
Who will be Mayor? Who will be our Councillors? These are the decisions that Year 9 Social Studies students of Western Heights High School in Rotorua had to make on their voting day in October 2007. The voting procedures were overlooked by Mrs Wood (our teacher) and our elected Returning Officer Joe O'Donoghue.
The students came up and received their voting paper for their particular ward and were marked off our electoral roll. They then waited until they were permitted to enter the voting booth to cast their vote. After they had cast their vote, they were given a sticker that indicated that they had voted.
The following week, six students were then selected to count the cast votes made by all the year 9 students for the final election results. The final results were:
