PNGHS Make Their Voices Heard
On the 12th October 2007 our class and all the other year nine classes at Palmerston North Girls High School took part in Kids Voting 2007. Every class had to have an Election Co-ordinator, Electoral Roll Co-ordinator, Polling Clerks, Electoral Officers and a journalist.
As our school is in the Awapuni Ward we voted for the Awapuni candidates. The day went really well. Everybody felt as though they were involved and everyone took part. The voting started with a meeting with the team who made this happen, discussing the things like what's going where, how many people can vote at a time etc. Then we called the class into the hallway and discussed the process and the rules of voting and a quick summary of all the candidates. Everyone that didn't have a role sat and waited in the back room until three of them were called in. Three voters were allowed in the room at once, each sitting at a separate desk, and then the next three and so on. When they placed their voting paper in the voting box they each received a sticker that said ‘I voted' in English and Te Reo. We were pretty "Funky" according to the voters. On Monday the 15th of October the votes were counted and passed on.
