Welcome to Kids Voting School News

Thank you to all those teachers who have already registered their classes to participate in Kids Voting.

Registrations close 30 July - it is not too late to join.

This website has useful information to get you started on introducing the purpose of elections and the function of local government.  Each registered class is sent a ballot box.  This includes a Voting Pack which contains all the information to actually hold a Kids Voting election.

All local body election ballot papers are embargoed until Friday September 17.  This includes Kids Voting.  The ballot papers will be emailed to you (in pdf format) on 17 September.  We therefore suggest that you conduct the actual voting for Kids Voting during the last week of Term 3 (20-24 September).  You will therefore need to store the ballot boxes carefully until this time.  The votes will need to be counted when you come back after the holidays and the adult local body elections are concluded (Saturday 9 October).

Below you'll find articles from previous years - the majority written by students - about their school's Kids Voting Election, and some of the preparations that took place in the run up to voting day.

Please send in your stories and photos about your Kids Voting 2010 experience - simply email them to info@kidsvoting.org.nz
